A place full of culture and artPalbok-dong, a half-day trip where art blooms

We introduce Palbok-dong, a travel destination rapidly emerging as a place worth going for a half-day or one-day trip in Jeonju. Palbok-dong is gradually becoming a tourist attraction for art with its installation art installed around the railroad. We highly recommend visiting Palbok Art Factory, a culture complex created by regenerating wasted industrial facilities, in particularly May. While walking along the streets and railroad where the Fringe Trees are in full bloom, you can possibly enjoy the spring fully. In addition, look around Banryong Mural Village, which is famous for murals drawn by the residents. Through murals, experience the history and atmosphere in person and recall the artistic sensibility of Palbok-dong with a cup of coffee at the cafe Pann Gallery.

Fringe Trees Railroad, White Snow Tunnel Met in May

If you have already seen the cherry blossoms, double flowering cherry blossoms, rapeseeds, and royal azaleas as the epitome of spring. Jeonju’s Fringe Trees Railroad in Palbok-dong is waiting for you. Around the railroad of Palbok-dong, Fringe Trees make spectacular from the end of April to the middle of May, when you can feel the spring with the pale green buds sprouting on the thin branches.

Flowers blooming like snowflakes across the railroad tracks have created a white snow tunnel, making it a popular attraction to take pictures. The railroad, which runs about 1.3km along the river, has been used as an industrial area’s transportation for a long time. The trains run on a round trip at 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. on weekdays, and the railroad is crowded with people and photographers trying to capture this beautiful scenery. In the spring, it’s essential to take photos of this scenery, but don’t forget the manners of following the instructions directed by the safety officers!

Palbok Art Factory, Trendy Culture Complex Full of Photo Spots

It’s too bad to go back right after the Fringe Trees Railroad! Right nearby, there is Palbok Art Factory, a great place to enjoy spring together with Fringe Trees. This place was originally an abandoned cassette tapes factory operated in the 70s and 80s but left unattended for 25 years. However, it was newly transformed into an attractive culture complex in 2016 and has become a hipster-like dating course in Jeonju.

Cute and colorful sculptures and murals are everywhere. In addition, there are elements that visitors of all ages can enjoy inside. Such as regular exhibitions where art and culture can be enjoyed in person, creative studios, libraries, cafes, restaurants, etc., make visitors constantly visit. Also, if you visit during the Jeonju International Film Festival, please consider appreciating ‘100 Films 100 Posters’, a film posters exhibition of the films invited to the festival. Palbok Art Factory, where retro aesthetic meets modern sense, is an excellent place for someone to reminisce about the past, for someone to appreciate the times, and for someone to make new memories.

Unlike any other allies, the alley had no uniqueness but has been transformed into a colorful, lively mural street and sets perfectly as a cute walk course. Unlike Jaman Mural Village, paintings symbolize Jeonju everywhere, making this place no better photo spot than anywhere else. Take a shot in front of the mural. ‘Myeongjin Book Rental Shop,’ Shooting Location of ‘Twenty Five Twenty One’

This village gained popularity with Myeongjin Book Rental Shop, one of the most famous filming locations for the K-drama Twenty Five Twenty One.’ The drama ended with the scene set in the book rental shop. It is where the male main character Baek Yi-Jin(played by Nam Joo-hyuk) worked, but the fans who still feel excited visit constantly. Fortunately, the ‘Myeongjin Book Rental Shop’ sign and video/DVD stickers are left on the location as evidence of filming, so taking photos is visiting 101! The wooden sign on the white bricks goes quite well with Seohak-dong Art Village.

Aside from the book rental shop, a symbol of Baek Yi-Jin(played by Nam Joo-hyuk) and Na Hee-Do(played by Kim Tae-Ri) meeting each other, it is also fun to find spots that have been briefly shown in the drama. We recommend recalling the memories of watching the drama while visiting this place.

Are We in Europe? The Vibe Slayer ‘Goof-Off’

This is Jeonju, not Europe! ‘Goof-Off’ is a trendy European-style brunch & Western food restaurant that you feel from the exterior.
Suppose you feel hungry before or after looking around the art village. In that case, we recommend visiting this small but impressive restaurant. It is pretty different from Seohak Art Village, but this great atmosphere allures you to step in.

Beautiful Village Where Picturesque Flowers Bloom Come Get Some Fresh Air, Saekjang-dong Wonsaek Myunghwa Village

Wonsaek Myunghwa Village is always full of comfort and warmth, where generosity blends together in Mother Nature's arms. This place keeps you excited from the stability of the movement, neither not too fast not nor too slow, and even the gentle breeze. ‘Baramssoeneun-gil’ is well known for its bicycle tour from Hanbyeokru through Jeonju Hanok Village and along the Jeonju Stream to Wonsaek Myunghwa Village. There is a bicycle path where you can enjoy riding without feeling uncomfortable but with the cool wind. You can also relax walking along the leafy walkway. This village, which looks extraordinary from the entrance, is like friendly countryside that you can get to in five minutes from the busy uptown and arouses travelers’ curiosity with a cafe. The cafe, which is an art itself, has a variety of unique experiences suitable for its reputation as a Rural Tourism Focused Village.

Primary Colored Murals You Meet From Place to Place in the Village

As you pass by the murmuring water at the pinwheels, murals beautifully painted on the wall of every house in the alley, which is different from the typical rural villages, greet travelers. You can see stunning fairytale-like murals. Unlike Jaman Mural Village, which is characterized by its splendor, the warm colors as if it were a scene from a fairy tale is the charming point.

Wonsaek Myunghwa Village

Feel calm and stable with the sound of the wind and the water and appreciate masterpiece-like murals with good poem verses touching your heart. For some reason, you will feel like staying and getting to know more about this village.

Baramssoeneun-gil, a Romantic Bicycle Ride

It’s no exaggeration to say that the bicycle path is the best attraction of the Wonsaek Myunghwa Village. The Wonsaek Myunghwa Village was reborn when the abandoned railway was changed into a bicycle path as the lines were reorganized last 2018. For those who have not felt the moment of riding along with the overgrown trees at Jeonju Stream while enjoying the wind getting on you, this place is the place we recommend the most.

We believe everyone agrees that choosing travel destinations mainly around pretty cafes or visiting cafes nearby is a must when you go on a trip.
