A spring breeze seems to blow as the long winter which tightened our collar subsided. Wondered when winter would end, but spring has already come. Rather than a visible change in the number of calendars, the sudden change—without knowing whether it comes or not—in the season presents both joy and excitement. All four seasons have their own beauty and style, but among them, spring is the most welcoming season to announce an exciting start. The beginning of a new year, the beginning of a new semester, the beginning of a new commitment. There will never be a season that goes so well with the word 'start'. What image comes to mind when think of "Spring"? Isn't it like a green sprout, a bud getting ready to bloom, and a warm sunlight?

As the first place to feel the spring of Jeonju,
it is recommended to visit Gyeonggijeon with beautiful white plum blossoms
and Hyanggyo with spring-colored Sansuyu blossoms.

The scent of white plum blossoms signals spring, Gyeonggijeon

Walking through Hanok Village and Gyeonggijeon which keeps the beauty of the Jeonju, the scent of plum blossoms catches one's step. Plum blossoms bloom before leaves, and their names vary depending on the season and color.
The noble winter plum blossoms (Seoljungmae) and the bashful red plum blossoms (Hongmaehwa) are also beautiful, but the white plum blossoms harmonize with the scenery around Gyeong-gijeon, creating the utmost elegant beauty. It is a few plum trees, but its beauty stands out more.

The strength of overcoming the cold with and the scent that gently captivates the heart may be the reasons why scholars in Joseon Dynasty loved plum blossoms.

Yellow Sansuyu filled with warm spring sun, Hyang-gyo

After enjoying the spring at Gyeonggijoen with the grace and scent of white plum blossoms, let's move to Hyanggyo. Passing through the Manwharu at the entrance of Hyanggyo and the ginkgo trees that have not yet welcomed spring, Daeseongjeon finally appears. Daeseongjeon is a shrine dedicated to Confucius and other great men. Back of this Daeseongjeon, the Sansuyu blossoms, which has begun to bloom yellow, welcome us. Jeonju Hyanggyo is beautiful even in autumn when 100-year-old ginkgo trees turn yellow. However, if the yellow color at that time shows glamour and maturity, the yellow color of the current Jeonju Hyanggyo, where Sansuyu blossoms have just begun to bloom, maintains a calmness under the warm spring sun. If the white plum blossoms feel like a scholar who greets spring resolutely, the Sansuyu blossoms feel like a pure child who greets the upcoming spring with excitement.
