2022 Jeonju International Sori Festival
The Jeonju International Sori Festival, which communicates through music,
opened its splendid curtain on the 16th with the opening performance of ‘Hundred Years of Epic’.
Befitting the identity of ‘Traditional Music and World Music, the Jeonju International Sori Festival soaring with two wings,’
it is a cultural festival that extends to the world by combining the traditional sounds of Korea, folk music of the world,
and modern art.The festival, full of colorful performances and events that will delight our eyes and
ears, will be held for ten days.
Jeonju International Sori Festival Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony of the Jeonju International Sori Festival was held at the Moakdang of the Korea Sori Culture Center. As I climbed the stairs to Moakdang to see the opening ceremony, banners announcing the festival fluttered on both sides in the wind, and the cute booths lined up along the road started lit up to announce the festival. Visitors who came here to enjoy the festival gathered together, looked at the booths, and took pictures in the photo zone to start the event together.
The information booth in front of Moakdang sells goods as well as provides festival information. The meticulous and kind explanations of the Sori angels in blue clothes followed the questions from the visitors who were watching the goods carefully. As the opening ceremony approached, people who came to watch the opening performance began to gather at the Moakdang. The Jeonju International Sori Festival, where sounds from all over the world come together to become one, begins now.
A cultural festival to participate and empathize with
The theme of the Jeonju World Sori Festival in 2022 is ‘the Neum’, which means that the singer makes a unique piece of pansori and uses it as a specialty. Wouldn't it be a perfect theme for a festival that tries various things for the value of art that will continue from the past to the present, from the present to the future? The Jeonju International Sori Festival is a cultural festival where you can participate, sympathize, and enjoy yourself. It is only completed when the audience sees, hears with their ears, and feels with their bodies, performing artistic performances in various places such as performance halls, outdoor stages, and plazas.
While listening to an unfamiliar instrument and the melody of a foreign country, I was drawn to the sound of laughter from somewhere. ‘Learning Gangnyeong Talchum(Mask Dance Drama of Gangnyeong)’ is in full swing at the outdoor performance hall. It is even admirable to see children enjoying and learning our traditional culture while having fun moving their bodies. Through such a meaningful event, children will have good memories of our culture. And it makes my heart proud to think that it will continue and will continue into the future and will be a good opportunity to develop traditional culture.
