Korea's representative picture book culture festival where writers, readers, publishers, and experts interact based on picture books ranging from 0 to 100 years old
1) Jeonju International Picture Book Fair is a Jeonju-like global picture book culture festival where domestic and foreign writers, readers, publishers, and experts gather in one place through picture books. The book fair, which marks its fourth anniversary this year, is under the theme of "Picturebook, the Space of Magic," and will feature various exhibitions, lectures, experiences, and book markets so that all age groups can enjoy the sensitivity and imagination of picture books together. It is centered on the Palbok Art Factory and Wansan Library, and is developing Jeonju's picture book ecosystem and its status as an international cultural content through cooperation with renowned foreign writers and institutions.
2) Jeonju, once called a "sold-out copy" and the center of print and publishing, is still a city with a deep affection for stories and paintings. Jeonju citizens and visitors discover magic in picture books and vividly experience the process of making books through meetings with writers. Famous domestic and foreign artists such as Baek Hee-na, Sarah Lundberry, Eva Lindström, and Kitty Crowder gather in Jeonju to share the world of their works, and visitors can feel the emotion and immersion as if they were the main characters in a picture book at the exhibition hall.
3) At the book fair, there are book markets and art markets where you can meet domestic and foreign picture books, original works, and new works by local writers, which are difficult to encounter. In the book market, where 22 publishers participate, books, goods, author programs, autograph sessions, and paper drama performances will be held together, and an art market will also be held where you can meet the works of six picture book writers. It is an experience space that anyone who loves picture books can enjoy, and it provides a wealth of pleasure to family visitors.
4) Starting with the opening performance, there are various programs that connect books, people, and cultures, including international conferences, pre-lectures, lectures by Korean writers, portfolio reviews, and student group programs. For those who want to feel the magic of picture books in person, the Jeonju International Picture Book Book Fair is a must-visit festival. This year, especially through exchanges with Sweden, overseas content such as the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize (ALMA) exhibition and the Swedish Picture Book Special Exhibition has been further strengthened. The book fair, which crosses the past, present, and future of picture books, will be held in Jeonju for a month from May 29 to June 29.
