Jeonjus Grandmothers Neighborhoods Trekking Course at Jeonju Saekjang-dong Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village

Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village, formerly known as Saekjang-dong Village, got its name from "Saekjang", which means "a fence to block the enemy." The name was changed to "Saekjang" with the same pronunciation because the original Chinese characters were difficult to understand. Later, as colorful murals were painted all around the village, it became known as "Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village," and, true to its name, it has become a beautiful village. Throughout the village, various murals in different colors adorn the walls. Walking along the alleyways, the murals on the house fences, resembling scenes from a fairy tale, capture attention. The murals, enjoyed with the sounds of water and the wind, bring a sense of calm to the mind, making the entire village feel like one unified artwork. One of the village's main attractions is the "Wind-Blown Path," a bicycle and trekking course. The old Jeolla Line railway has been transformed into a bike path, which connects Jeonju Hanok Village to Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village. The path, running alongside Jeonjucheon Stream and through forest trails, offers a healing course where one can experience the wind and sunlight firsthand. In Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village, various experiential programs are available, such as mural painting and cookie making. Additionally, the village's farm restaurants offer healthy meals made with fresh local produce, providing a satisfying meal after a trek. Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village is a warm and charming rural village where you can walk, see, taste, and enjoy.

TIP The bicycle road to Wonsaek Myeonghwa Village is well-maintained, so it is recommended to travel by bike.
