A Night Walk Through a Thousand Years of History

Night of Jeonju & Heritage Story

As the sun set, Jeonju transformed from its daytime tranquility into a city illuminated by light. Historic sites throughout Jeonju, once the capital of Later Baekje and the hometown of the Joseon Dynasty, became the stage for an unforgettable evening. Soft lights illuminated the tiled roofs of Gyeonggijeon Shrine, while visitors filled the alleys of Jeonju Hanok Village. For one special night, Jeonju became a place where stories from centuries past felt closer than ever. Under the theme "Jeonju, a Thousand-Year-Old City: An Evening Walk Through History," Jeonju Heritage Night invited visitors to discover the city's cultural heritage through walking, viewing, and experiencing its historic sites after dark.

A Diverse Night Guided
by the Eight Masters

Jeonju Heritage Night unfolded through a variety of programs led by the event's symbolic “Eight Masters.”Illumination programs transformed historic sites and village streets into scenic nighttime landscapes and photo spots. Heritage-themed activities, including stamp tours and interactive challenges, encouraged visitors to explore Jeonju's history. Storytelling programs and traditional tales brought laughter and engagement, while Joseon-style portrait experiences created memorable keepsakes. Traditional music performances and cultural showcases filled the evening with energy, while tea ceremonies under the moonlight and traditional food experiences offered a taste of Korea's culinary heritage. A youth flea market added even more vitality to the atmosphere of the Hanok Village. Among the most popular programs were “In Search of the Lost Later Baekje,” a stamp tour exploring the history of Later Baekje, and “Zombie Annals,” an immersive experience set within Gyeonggijeon Shrine.

A Night of Memories
in a Thousand-Year-Old City

The most memorable part of Jeonju Heritage Night was the people who shared the experience together. Families laughed as they collected stamps, friends captured unforgettable photos beneath the lights, and children filled the alleys with excitement around the activity booths. Applause and cheers accompanied every performance, while visitors relaxed over tea beneath the moonlit sky. Blending a thousand years of history with the joy of the present, Jeonju Heritage Night demonstrated that cultural heritage is not simply a story of the past, but a living culture shared and enjoyed by people today.
