Pungpaejigwan, the place of meeting

Pungpaejigwan is estimated to have been built when Jeonjubuseong Fortress was built in the early Joseon period.

It was written that when Jeonu County Magistrate Jo Geun (趙瑾) built the historical archives in 1473 (the 3rd year of King Seongjong’s reign), the guesthouse was renovated.

As the treasure with very important significance symbolizing the authority and dignity of the Jeollagamyeong Provincial Office, the big tablet ‘Pungpaejigwan’ has cursive text on the front.

The words ‘Pungpaejigwan’ were written by the prime minister Zhu Zhi-fan of the Ming Dynasty.

‘Pungpae’ is the hometown of Han Gaozu. So, it was used to mean that Jeonju was the cradle of the Joseon Dynasty.
